Is COVID-19 Test necessary for 2022 World Cup fans in Qatar

Qatar's confirmed COVID-19 test requirements for travel and return policy for international FIFA World Cup fans.

  • Football Fans going to the World Cup in Qatar must show a negative COVID-19 test when they arrive as part of the host nation’s rules to combat COVID-19, organizers said Thursday.

Additionally, any visitor who is 18 years of age or older is required to download the Ehteraz mobile app, which tracks people's whereabouts and health status.

Visitors must be able to present a negative PCR test result from 48 hours prior to arrival or a negative official rapid test result from 24 hours prior. The COVID-19 testing policy is "independent of the individual's vaccination status" for visitors aged six and over.

Rapid antigen tests completed within the preceding 24 hours of arrival in Qatar will only be acceptable if they were performed by authorised medical facilities rather than by the individual. If no COVID-19 symptoms appear in spectators in Qatar, no more testing is necessary.

Vaccination is not mandatory for the 1.2 million expected visitors for the Nov. 20-Dec. 18 tournament.

The decisions apply to all visitors arriving in Qatar since September 4 who are covered by the WorldCup public health policies.

On public transportation, including the subway that many fans will use to travel to the eight stadiums in and around Doha, masks are required.

Qatar has recorded nearly 450,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 682 deaths from the disease, according to data gathered since 2020 by Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

More than 97% of the population in Qatar has had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the data states.
