Sunil Chhetri, Bengaluru FC wins First-Ever 2022 Durand Cup title

Bengaluru FC Beat Mumbai City FC 2-1 to Win Maiden Durand Cup Title.






  • Bengaluru FC beat Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the final of the Durand Cup at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday.



Bengaluru FC and their talismanic captain Sunil Chhetri won their maiden Durand Cup football tournament title after beating Mumbai City FC 3-1 in the summit clash at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Sunday.



In addition to Apuia's equaliser, Siva Shakti and Alan Costa also scored to help Bengaluru win the Durand Cup, Shimla Trophy, and President's Cup for the first time ever.

Mumbai City FC was on the attack in the opening minute as Vinit Rai was tackled. Nevertheless, Greg Stewart's ball from the ensuing free-kick did not produce anything.



In a thrilling game, Siva Sakthi and Brazilian Alan Costa each scored once for the champions, while Apuia scored Mumbai's only goal.

Siva Sakthi scored the first goal of the game for the Blues, giving them the early advantage.



Chhetri also had two excellent scoring chances, one in the 69th minute when his left-footed shot missed the goal and the other in the 87th when he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Lachenpa was up to the challenge and made a superb save.

Mumbai did attempt one final shot in the six minutes of additional time, and Greg Stewart got near in the 94th minute, but his shot was likewise barely wide.

Mumbai City continued, but Bengaluru persisted in giving Sunil Chhetri the lone item of silverware he was still lacking from his storied cabinet.
