All India Football Federation: FIFA suspends AIFF over undue influence from third parties & how can it be lifted?
- India's football association has been suspended by FIFA because of "undue influence from third parties".
This Latest FIFA suspension on Indian Football Fed. means the FIFA women's Under-17's World Cup, set to begin on 11 October, 2022 will not take place as planned.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had been abolished by India's highest court in May, and a three-person committee had been chosen to oversee the sport.
The federations that make up Fifa must be free from governmental and political interference.
World governing body Fifa and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have met Indian football stakeholders and laid down a roadmap for the AIFF, which has to change its rules by the end of July and hold elections by 15 September.
What FIFA Disciplinary Committee Said.?
"The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF's daily affairs," Fifa added.
"Fifa is in constant constructive contact with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India and is hopeful that a positive outcome to the case may still be achieved."
How can the suspension be lifted India Football Federation?
According to FIFA, the immediate steps need to be taken are:
Repeal of CoA mandate in full. Which means the Supreme Court appointed body loses control of the whole process - from elections to finalising the constitution.
AIFF administration to be put back in charge. If FIFA's demands are accepted, Dhar and his administrators would take back full control of the functioning of the AIFF [till elections were held, at least]. This means no more CoA.
An Independent electoral committee. FIFA wants the elections for the AIFF to be run by a committee that is elected by the AIFF general assembly only.
Elections have to be conducted on the basis pre-existing structure. Which means no votes for 'eminent players' as decided by the CoA. The voting structure would go back to being from the state associations only.
